Recently, Tunnel No. 1 of the Nisour Interchange Project in Baghdad, Iraq, constructed by China Railway Sixth Group, was officially opened to traffic. The tunnel has effectively alleviated traffic congestion in downtown Baghdad and improved travel conditions for local residents.
China Railway Sixth Group was responsible for the construction of the main structures of three tunnels under the Nisour Interchange Project, as well as waterproofing, interior road surfaces, traffic safety facilities, electromechanical installations, and the renovation of two existing tunnels. The total contract value is approximately 300 million yuan (RMB).
Since construction began in December 2023, the project team has utilized a combination of surface dewatering, curtain grouting, and light well-point methods to effectively address dewatering issues in the tunnels. To mitigate the impact of high temperatures on concrete performance, the team strictly controlled the ratio of ice used and the watering maintenance cycles, meeting the high standards of international specifications.
